한국과 방글라데시가 대테러 협력 강화를 위해 손을 맞잡았다.

방글라데시 주한대사이자 여당 아와미연맹(AW) 고문위원 겸 외교전문가로 활동하고 있는 무함마드 자미르는 방글라데시와 

한국이 긴밀한 협력관계에 있음을 강조하며 “함께 테러에 맞서 싸울 것”이라고 밝혔다.

최근 현지에서 잇따른 외국인 피살사건에 이슬람 무장조직 이슬람국가(IS)가 개입된 것으로 추정되자, 본격적으로 테러대비에 

착수했다. 

한국 정부 역시 미국 주도의 시리아 공습에 연관이 있다는 이유로 최근 IS 테러대상국 명단에 올라 상황을 예의주시하고 있다.

외교부의 초청으로 최근 방한한 바 있는 자미르 주한대사는 “테러는 반드시 근절돼야 한다”며 “편가르기보다 각국이 함께 힘을

합치는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다”고 전했다.

양국은 지난 1972 외교를 수립한 이래로 지금까지 우호적인 관계를 유지하고 있다. 자미르 한국대사는 한국을 방글라데시 

사회경제발전을 위한 성공적인 모델로 평가하고 있다.

Bangladesh to help South Korea fight terrorism

Bangladesh is committed to working closely together with South Korea in the fight against terrorism.

Former Ambassador to Korea and secretary of the Bangladeshi foreign ministry, Muhammad Zamir said, 

“We are all against terrorism. Bangladesh has very close relations with South Korea in fighting it.”

His remarks came in the wake of a series of killings of foreigners in the country, for which the Islamic State (IS) group claimed

responsibility.

South Korea, for its part, is seeking to increase counter-terrorist efforts following reports that IS has listed the country as a

possible target due to its role in the U.S.-led anti-IS coalition in Syria.

Zamir, also a foreign affairs analyst and an advisory council member in the ruling Awami League in Bangladesh,

who visited Seoul at the invitation of the foreign ministry, said in an interview on Friday, “Any sort of terrorism is something that must stop,

but in order to do so, we should not take sides. The U.N. is the only means to fighting terrorism without creating unnecessary controversy.”

Korea and Bangladesh established diplomatic ties in 1972, a year after Bangladesh’s Liberation War from Pakistan. Zamir also

cited South Korea as a successful model for Bangladesh in pursuing social progress and economic development.
